The 70-200 VR is an absolute gem on DX.  It's softish in the corners on FX, but with DX sensors the soft corners aren't even in the image.  AF is magic, and there are lens buttons that you can assign  to lock focus, AF with another AF mode, etc.  Awesome glass.  Good used ones are reasonable and there were a bazillion of these made, so KEH.com, BHPhoto, and Adorama almost always have clean ones to choose from.
