One objective, two bodies?

Is it possible or has it been done before (half hour Internet search suggest not) to take a lens and via some sort of contraption, split the image out to two mounts?

Think stereo photography only in reverse.

I was thinking this could be a really accurate way to test like-for-like between a couple of bodies.
