I have both the G7 and Gx85, and while they are both excellent cameras, if I had to buy one, I would pick the G7 for these reasons: First, the G7 has a superior EVF than the Gx85. Part of the creative process for me is composing through the EVF, and it's clear to me that Panny cut corners on the EVF for the Gx85. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. Secondly, I don't care how much IBIS a camera has, if it doesn't offer a mic jack, then I can't take it seriously as a video option. That is a serious shortcoming of the GX85. Thirdly, if I'm going to consider a camera for videography, it better have an articulating screen, something that the GX85 also lacks. The sad part is, obviously Panny could have put these features in, but chose not to, not wanting to cannibalize the G7 and Gx8. In my view, even without IBIS, the G7 is a something of a classic.

You would only need an articulating screen if you were vlogging, in which case you would have chosen a video camera with a mic jack.

The GX85 is obviously not for vlogging.

On the other hand, the tilting screen and IBIS make the GX85 extremely useful as a discrete video option. Rather than shooting with some huge, stabilized monstrosity on a tripod with articulating screen and bulky mic, the GX85 can enable you almost to go unnoticed.
