Re: using IXT from Lightroom

IXT is the tool I was waiting for. The results are really better than in Lightroom. However, the suggested communication path between Lightroom and IXT in the help file (external editing) is not ideal because it requires more actions than actually necessary. There's a better way to do this :

1. Create a file named "Edit in IXT.lua" in "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Scripts".

2. Insert in that file the following lines of code (dash lines not included)

local LrApplication = import 'LrApplication'
local LrTasks = import 'LrTasks'
local catalog = LrApplication.activeCatalog()
local LrShell = import 'LrShell'

local function openWithExternalProgram()
local programPath = "C:\\Program Files\\Iridient Digital\\Iridient X-Transformer\\Iridient X-Transformer.exe"
local photo = catalog:getTargetPhoto()
if photo ~= nil then
local photoPath = photo:getRawMetadata('path')
LrShell.openFilesInApp({photoPath}, programPath)

LrTasks.startAsyncTask(openWithExternalProgram, "openWithExternalProgram")

You can get this script from the following link :
[not a permanent link]

3. Re-launch Lightroom. Now, you should have a Scripts menu at the right of the main menu bar in LR (if it didn't already exist).

4. Select a RAF file and chose "Edit in IXT" in the Scripts menu. The RAW file will be sent to IXT and immediately processed. Then you only have to import the generated DNG file by merely synchronizing the folder where the original RAF file is stored (if you have decided to generate the DNG file in the same folder as the original). Just right-click the folder in LR and select Synchronize.

This procedure would work better if IXT didn't process the RAF file immediately because the user has no opportunity to change the IXT settings in that case. I hope this will be fixed in the final version.

Note that the above script will work with any executable accepting a filename on the command line. You just have to change the name of the executable and the script name.

Hope this helps.
