Well, sensor wise, NX is still king, 20-28 APS-C megapixels, instead of 16-20 m4/3 ones, it is just the double/triple IS of Pana is second in industry right now (and starting to become really good of its own), and GH5 is video king, what it offers, you can't even find in professional video cameras right now, and in every camera they earn a little bit of low light performance (even though, admittedly, not much, but there is clear improvement with every camera near the top).

Well.....if you look at Em1.2 4K video you can see just how incredible good it is. Fantastic in ISo3200. Panny....can only be a lot better. Because they offer incam 4:2:2 10 bit 4K. That is much better really

Panasonic is really trying to push the envelope here, I believe they are number 1 in innovation these days.

They have been the biggest innovator for mirrorless ever since it started....with them. G1 was the start, GH1 was a videopowerhouse, GH4 4K was jawdropping, the best S-AF became by far the best CDAF AKA DFD which on my GH4 works well. I have yet to test my EM1.2 for BIF but it will be better may be. Regardless, GH4 is a solid camera for action.

Probably these announcements today will push the whole industry a bit (I see a6xx people to save for another announcement soon, because a6300 and a6500 do not make any sense at all right now!).

We need to await reviews of the GH5 though before we can say anything definitive. But it seems a superb cam.

But what makes such systems are lenses. I am actually more impressed with those updates on those old lenses.

Also: no corners are cut with Panasonic. GX80 was so amazing because they simply got that cam a better shutter and 4K IBIS which works nice inspite of their GX8 being quite new...and could not keep up here.

I think Panasonic is a commendable camerasystem and...very rare are the comments on its build quality. Really....so few and far between. Can't say the same of Oly and just hope my Em1.2 will be fine....

From Cinema5D : "We were presented with a ISO 6400 video sample and noise in the picture was very evident. On top of that, when shooting with high ISO settings, the camera will automatically reduce noise internally. This feature cannot currently be turned off and can only be controlled via the menu with high/mid/ and low settings. "

What cam is this?

In the interview they say the DR is similar to GH4. Also, the LOG that can really manipulate the information will be a paid upgrade.

When the NX1 was out, was the biggest innovation in mirrorless cameras, I know because I stopped using the GH4 altogether after I bought the NX1 and there are 5 GH5s right now in the world, far from a finished product!

If a cam is 6 months later on the market with nothing new, just things better it is not really an innovation is it? It is nothing new, just me-too+1. GH5 like I said: remains to be seen. Agreed.

10bit 4:2:2 WILL be great, at the moment you can't edit the codec. Adobe will figure it out when (or before) Camera release in April. Also, how many people have the hardware to edit sufficiently (not even perfectly) this kind of files? Much more less than can you imagine (right now it is not supported anyway, so not a lot of people really).

How many people were happy to put up with a completely unsupported codec?

I may end up getting one in the end, but my hope is for a video camera with 10bit 4:2:2, not a mirrorless, and I would pay 4000$/euros for one.

Noone talks about Hi-Res photos for Panasonic (do they have implemented the feature?), but in general, not a lot of people really care. 28megapixels are capable to print a really really big thing, why anyone needs more than that? and if I need more, I am getting A7rII or Nikon, and I do not pray to the Gods of still-ness.

So for some strange reason 28 MP, precisely the number you cam has, is what everyone needs. Less - significantly worse (like 20 MP 4/3 or so) and more is useless. What is your experience then? I used 16, 20 MP cams (mFts), 36 mP D800E and 80 MP HiRes. The HiRes mode gets you muhc lower noise, much better colours, much more room for postediting since there is a lot more information. And thee is no aliasing since there is no bayer filter. It is simply mindboggling good.

Panny hasn't got it. Sadly.

Also, what keeps me NX at the moment (or any other system really) is the incredible 16-50S, the best all around workhorse in industry.

A 24-77 2-2.8APS-C ISN'T like a 24-70 2.8 m4/3 at all. I consider the S a much better lens than the 12-35 I remember, with better hold up in the contrasts and manipulation of flares, it reminds me a Leica prime lens in its rendition really.

Reviews shows the opposite: the 16-50 S is just a tad worse than 12-35 f2.8 in IQ. But it is a very nice lens for sure and glad you like it. In fact it is good to see so many NX1 users still loving their cam. I can relate. I still love my GH4 a whole whole lot. Never stalled, never failed, always worked, did everything well (at least to my mind).

I am talking about the GH5. The quotes are for the GH5.

From what we see until now (there is footage you can download and grade if you like form a video ambassador of the GH5 and PAnasonic) ISO seems similar with GH4, a tad better for sure - I wouldn't say a full ISO, NR kicks in very early (from 800ISO is evident, -5 in the settings keep it in check though until 1600. 3200 is usable I guess but needs some post treatment).

Saying that, do you know the ISO differences of companies? same ISO is not the same for every company. I am just quoting the numbers from the Max Yuryev video just to have it in mind when talking low light. Spoiler: NX is closer to the respected number. There aren't any GH5 tests yet (because there are no cameras at the wild!), but I would expect it to be GH4 territory.

The above are evident whenever trying to match cameras, because I work with a6300 and GH4s all the time, Sony is much closer to NX always with same settings.

Whatever is not quoted is personal experience, I am not elected anything in dpr, so I can speak only for my self and personal experiences.

I said 28megapixels because it is the cameras we own here (most of us anyway), why to mention a smaller number when we have a bigger one?! and I said that If I wanted anything bigger there are plenty A7rII and Nikon in my close circle to do specific jobs.

The top m4/3 have 20megapixels, but most of them are rather new (or not out yet) and the two m4/3 flagships are 2000euros, which is a new territory for m4/3, not an easy decision for most people if they care only for all around photography and already have an excellent 15frames per second, 28 megapixel BSI APS-C sensor. If I had an X-T2 or a Sony a6300 (or a Nikon 24mgpxl) would definitely had a better sensor than any m4/3 on the market.

GH4 is a workhorse and a stable for the industry for many years, I do occasionally use it for time lapses and some shots in a couple of productions I am working.

I have talked about the S lens elsewhere, a 2-2.8 APS-C lens is faster than a 2.8 m4/3 for starts and it is slightly more tele too (7mm).

The new versions have cosmetic and IS changes (to work with the IBIS) and they do not seem to fix the well documented flare issue.

I am expecting to see the 12-60 2.8-4f, that is exciting, but I am afraid a 4f is a no man's land in m4/3 territory as you have to push the ISO harder. Just my opinion of course. I will explore all these options the next months, for now the GH5 do not have a specific date yet.
