Hi!

I wonder how GH5 will do in terms of still photos. Would M43 GH5 with its dual IS could equal IQ of D500/NX1/X-T2?

Only when IBIS becomes important. It is 5 stops. It helps. Otherwise: not a chance. But its IQ is therefor not bad or mediocre. It is very good. Just not as good as these sensors.

In terms of video, it seems like Panasonic is pushing the boundaries but wonder why they didn't go for HEVC h.265 codec? 2 years ago video people were raving about this codec being the best thing and future devices will have it but if GH5 doesn't have it,

Leave it up to them. Have they ever failed? No.

Totally agreed. My old man always says "if it ain't broken don't fix it". But we did hear a lot of talk about HEVC being amazing and NX1 was touted as future proof etc.

logically it means two things:

1. HEVC is not the future?

2. GH5 isn't future proof?

Sure it is.

Hmm. Apologies for coming across as stubborn, but how could you say yes to both 1 and 2? Aren't they contradicting each other?

THere is HEVC in the Panasonic for 6K photomode. If needed a FW updatre is all it takes. Ity is just software. So yes. whatever is needed, it will be possible.

Thoughts?

I use Em1.2....I am testing HiRes mode now. 80MP and I have used it in very very windy weather (66 km/h winds!) and shot blustery showers today. It has no problems with that, with wild water, with reetfields in it that fat move.

I love the EM1, it had the best ergo and the 12-40/2.8 was a real beauty. Could you please advise if those shots in challenging conditions were hand held or tripod?

Tripod! But...HR is not possible handheld with Oly lenses for they lack OI and the cam can't do it with HiRes. Enter a lens with good OIS, like the PL1004-400 and I got good shots in the sense even some that were far sharper than the 20 MP single shot one. BUt in 90% odf the case you need a tripod. Having said that I am convinced a monopod will do the trick as well with the good lenses.

Here no APS-c cam can come close to its IQ. Colourreproduction is better than than the 645 Z, noise is better than A7RII.
