Nikon rubber repair

It dawned on me as I was thinking about the rubber that was coming loose on my D200 that I had a solution to reattach it. Some of my friends race high end slot cars. These are not the cars we grew up with but blisteringly fast things that do 180 foot tracks in 2 seconds. They are called wing cars because they have side and rear air dams to give them downward force to stay on the track. I was talking to them and to attach those dams they use a form of 3m adhesive tape that is only the adhesive on a removable backing. Luckily I got some from my friends that almost covered the piece of rubber I needed to attach in almost one strip but you can lay it right next to it to cover the whole piece. Works like a charm to reattach the rubber grips on your camera. It;s probably the same stuff Nikon used to begin with.

It's not easy to locate and I believe it's about 40 bucks a roll but if you can locate one of the old school slot car tracks they might sell you a few inches. Best bring some release paper or your cleaned rubber to attach it to to get it home. If all that fails this Koford tape is pretty good. It's not the 3m stuff they use around here but it's cheaper. Just make sure you don't get the strapping tape they use for those bodies though it's not the same stuff.
