One more reason for acquiring the K-S2: I have plans in the works to move to Northern Idaho in a year or so -- Sandpoint up near the Canadian border where the weather is harsher than it is here in Southern California. It seems to me that the K-S2 might be a better choice than the K-S1 up there -- or maybe I should put that in the form of a question: why do you prefer a camera without weather protection?
The question was not addressed at me, but...
IMHO the main selling point of the K-S1 is its weight, which is the lightest for a DSLR with a pentaprism viewfinder. The K-S2 weights 120g more (the lightest Pentax with weather protection being the K-30 & K-50, because they lack an articulated screen). Your K-5 IIs weights 80g more than the K-S2. Why would you want a K-S2 ? Articulated screen and WiFi ?
Well, yes, weight. I was using the EPN-2 when I was having a problem with weight, but most of the time I don't have a problem. The recent thread in which someone was looking for a backup for his K3ii intrigued me and in the course of reading the discussion notes, I thought a K-S1 might be an improvement over the EPN-2 the next time I twisted something and wanted to go light. And, actually, the K-S1 may very well still serve that purpose. But I had thought that I'd be able to use the K-S1 as I do my K-3, in the manual mode and my experience with the single dial on the K-S1 and having it so easily shift into the MF mode suggested that I'd probably use it just the way I use the EPN-2.
But my outing with the K-S1 wasn't a complete disappointment. The results when I looked at them in Lightroom were very impressive. I expect I'll still play with the K-S1 in P and Tw with some of my primes, but not in the manual mode. And since that mode is important to me, and since camera weight doesn't happen to be a concern at the present time (no twisted knee or other joint aches) I decided to enhance my camera collection with a K-S2.
I am 82 years old and so apt to twist something from time to time. On the other hand I am one of those fellows who has lifted weights all his life and is in good physical condition. And on the other other hand as a retired high-priced engineer from Boeing I have a very good pension and no money worries; so, even though I did feel a twinge of guilt when I read your note, I'm still looking forward to playing with the K-S2 when I get it. Mea culpa.
