What a day
4

I purchased a gx85 three weeks ago and have been enjoying it very much.  Over the last couple of days, I started noticing a horizontal band of distortion in the videos.  I started testing to eliminate possible causes:  Was it a playback problem on my computer?  No, older videos still played fine.  A specific lens?  No, it happened with all lenses.  Finally, it came down to the camera.  At this point, I just assumed it was a camera issue, so I initiated warranty repair and dropped it at UPS (couldn't return to seller because I'd already sold the kit lens).

Well, later in the day I happened to record a short clip on my sony a7s2.  To my surprise, the same distortion appeared.  I did a quick test using my wife's laptop to play back both the original video file from SD card, and the copy that had been transferred to my PC.  The original had no issue.  The copy had the distortion.  I'm still narrowing down the exact cause, but I think it might be the SSD where I initially copy files onto my PC.

So, what happened to the gx85?  Well, luckily I was able to intercept it at the local UPS store where I'd dropped it earlier in the day.  What a relief!

Finally, I have to say the gx85 is an awesome camera.  I had a gh4 in the past, and currently have an a7s2.  Both of those have some technical advantages, but neither are as much fun to shoot IMO.  Gx85 is a perfect all-around carry everywhere camera.  I've been using it 90% with the oly 17 1.8.  A great compact combo that I stuck in a jacket pocket for a recent family trip.  Highly recommended, especially for those who value video.
