Re: The K-S1 and the 18-135 lens

Lawrence,

What I like on the "P" mode is, that it automatically selects the optimal aperture for a given lens, i.e. around 2 stops from its full brightness. That's why I need to modify the aperture/shutter speed only occasionally, mainly to modify the DOF. I am surprised with your findings with the K-3. My Pentax(es), only under a very low light set the shutter speed below 1/60. They rather lift the ISO up to 1600. But when I use the (built-in) flash for indoor shooting mainly of my grandchildren (and they do not live with us in the same home, just in the same city fortunately ), then I use the shutter priority mode and I set the shutter speed to 1/60. Otherwise the camera would select as long speeds as 1/8, and everything would be fuzzy. On the other side, my Pentax-A 70-210/4 is not so great below f:6.3, so on my K-x (where I keep this lens permanently) I am using the aperture priority mode. Usually I keep the f ratio 1:8. So, I do not see any reason to use the manual mode. Such a manual setting consumes a time, while the automatic exposure is instantaneous. Something else is the night shooting, when the exposures are in seconds or tens of seconds. The automatic exposure could be easily spoiled by any street lamp for example, or any other bright spot. Here the "gessomatic" is the way to go (to shoot).

Regards,

Peter
