Re: SPP 6.5 Noise Reduction on SDQ

Yes, my post is perhaps confusing, Scottelly thinks so too. My complaint is that a great amount of noise reduction is applied by SPP 6.5 as default and I dislike the smeary effect. I've worked for going on 3 years with DPMs, an SD14 and recently an SDQ with versions of SPP up to 6.4; in that time I've hardly ever touched an NR slider in SPP. My usual workflow is to do minimal adjustments to the X3F, mainly WB, exposure and very occasionally fill light before saving to 16 bit TIFF. Now I have to apply "less" before saving to TIFF. I'm no great PPer but once applied NR is hard to get rid of in another program.

The example I've shown is, as I said, an almost impossible exposure and normally I don't bother to try to save bad exposures but the light was so interesting. Here's another, minutes later, I quite like it despite the discoloured blown areas; no doubt I could adjust it with PP magic but for me imperfections are sometimes welcome...............

Do you have an  SDQ? do you use SPP 6.5? Do you find the default NR more aggressive?

Regards,

George
