What air shows do not allow camera bags ? Not in the US. They may be searched, but camera gear is not only allowed but welcomed.

Yes there does seem to be the camera bag loophole. I went to the Langley AFB 100th anniversary show and the security blog said no bags, not even a small backpack. Cameras, wear a photographers vest, they said.

So I bought a 25 pocket fishing vest and put everything in there, looking like a clown, and and all these guys with their Canikons walked in saying, "camera bag", even if it was a large back pack. They were still thoroughly searched by the MP's but at least they could bring it in. It took a lot longer to search my 25 vest pockets than it did the camera bags too!

PS, I used a 45-150 Panasonic consumer lens and found it too short for the majority of shots.  I would say take the 100-400 and hope the focus is fast.  The other thing I learned is flightline center is nearly impossible to photograph, say an F-18 just below the speed of sound....or even a Mig 17 in afterburner doing a high speed pass...heck the B-25 was difficult.
