Moonlight illuminates the Kilauea Lighthouse some 10 minutes before the nearly full Moon rose. (I was actually there to photograph the Moon behind the lighthouse.) The Kilauea lighthouse is on the north shore of Kauai. The lighthouse has a magnificent 2nd order Fresnel lens, but a small solar powered LED is now the operational device. Where has the romance gone?
This tiny island lies 1 mile offshore from Lanikai, a small enclave of tiny but expensive homes in this suburb of Honolulu. I lived in Lanikai when I was 10 and it was the low rent district. I saw many such sunrises back then, but my daguerreotype skills were not sufficient to capture them.
