The adapter is a focal reducer or speed booster. Metabones makes quite a lot of these but all of them convert Canon or Nikon lens mount to fit Sony or other 4/3 systems. One for EOS M camera is very difficult to come by. Instead of just a series of connection pins, the adapter has one extra lens element (or more) to contract the beam of light down onto a smaller sensor (APS-C or 4/3) instead of wasting it outside the sensor. This will give you about a stop of light more on to your sensor given that you use full flame lens.
