I had the nx500 and now the nx1. A lot of times I found myself recording in 1080 simply because of the crop. Also rolling shutter is almost Mon existent on 1080, while it's a huge problem in 4k.

That said, for pure quality the 4k was superior. Another advantage (and to me the biggest advantage of 4k right now) is that you can output 1080 and in your editing punch in and not lose any final output quality.

I use this technique in interviews. I film a slightly wider than medium shot and then punch in to a close mid, and a closeup simulating the use of 3 cameras for the interview. I can do all that without losing any quality between the 3 shots.

To me that is a really big deal.  For handheld though I would use 1080 because of the low rolling shutter. There is nothing worse than jello in your shot. You might as well throw away the footage.
