Thank you for the reply.

All I know is that, when I get a new lens, it doesn't make a sound from the lens blades when the camera is turned on/off. After doing something(which I suspect playing with "preview" mode with the attached lens), the lens starts making this mechanical noise from the lens blade when turning the camera on/off.

I know, this sounds crazy, but I don't think I am wrong. I may be sensitive at these stuff, but I can clearly distinguish the difference between when it made this sound and when it didn't.

By posting this, I was going to figure out if somehow my camera is a defective one. That's why I was asking others having g7 to test the same thing. As you mentioned, it seems it's not a big deal. I guess I will live with it.

Thanks.

I have not had all of my lenses on preview as it is something I rarely use.

On turning on, there is something awfully similar to aperture actuation coming from every lens I have just tried.

This is with the GX80, which admittedly might be having IBIS actuation at start up. But I think I should be able to distinguish aperture from IBIS/focusing and in addition to those there seems indeed aperture present.

Then I double checked. when turning off, a similar sound is emitted as well. And it's there whether in A mode the aperture is set to the widest or the narrowest aperture.

I'd say it's some sort of reset/startup noise and not something to worry about.

Tonight I will go and check a lens which I know has never been on that camera body and if anything unusual is observed, will report back.

tt321,

Thank you very much for your attention to this. I definitely believe that this is some sort of reset/startup noise when turning on the camera on/off.

However, it's a noise that was not present initially. That's all I am trying to figure out. What action/feature/situation would trigger it?

That's it.

I have not yet been able to replicate the 'initially does not exist' part through my experiments. The one lens I thought I had not put on this camera turned out to have been used before according to the exif of a photo I found. So no new lens to try from me until a new lens is bought, which will probably take a while

It's all good.

Thank you so much!

I got curious so took out my old G3 and tried it across the lenses. For the same lens, the initialisation noise is exactly the same on both G3 and GX80
