Actually, it is not outperforming at all. In fact, quite the opposite.
Canon image is slightly larger (3222x2148px) than the one from Sigma (2640x1760px). Although smaller, the SD15 image does also exhibit significantly more noise than what I see in the image from the Canon camera. I ran Canon frame through the Sharpener Pro 3 (for display default setting) and it still showed less noise in the output than the original image from Sigma. Although at that point the perceived detail from Canon does look more real (present) than what I see in the SD15 image. Putting the SD15 image through the same setting does make the image look way over-sharpened (even for the novice, which I am not), just throw it away. And last but not least the colors from the Canon camera do also look more pleasing when these two frames are compared. Although that can be changed I presume.
Ok, i must a not make my self clear in original post... but other people DID understand my point...
Specialy for you sergey! What i was saying is that DETAILS of sigma file looks to ME alot better! I own both cameras and there is NO WAY i can shoot wedding or sports or street/reporter style photography with sigma in any circumstances! Its slow on focus and not particular accurate most of the time with my 17-70 2.8-4 C lens, and those lens perform excellent on canikon bodys! The iso is terible starts from 400! and its true! My sigma file is not perfect in terms of iso 100 becouse i didnt expose it correctly and i have to brighten it some... Sigma hates artificial lights! So thats what we get in the end...
I may have missed something here (in which I apologise) but are you comparing the whole of the Canon file against the Sigma file or just a crop from it?
Here's what we know for certain based on the OP's statements:
- the Canon image is 3222x2148, or 6.9MP
- the Canon image was cropped from an original 5472x3648, or 19.96MP
- the Sigma image is 2640x1760, or 4.6 MP
- both images were take with the same lens at F5.6
- the OP believes the Sigma image "looks way better in terms of IQ/Details"
Here is an assumption I think is true, but not 100% certain:
- the camera to subject distance is pretty much the same for both the Canon and Sigma images (based on the same relative size of the foreground vs background objects in both images)
Based on the above, I add the following comments:
- the Canon image utilizes 34.7% (6.9/19.96) of it's pixels
- the Sigma image utilizes 100% of it's pixels
- the Canon image has 2.3M (or 50%) more pixels than the Sigma image
I make no personal statement on which image has better IQ/details.
BUT my post was about details of unprocessed image of sigma vs canon 500 vs 1500$
1.7cf vs FF camera! You dont need to sharpen it on any software except SPP for sigma - for me that made the best job!
this files have zero correction except exposure correction from raw(Sigma-SPP, Canon - LR)
Cheers.
