Of course in might not be all Nikon's fault what with the earthquakes in Japan Sony might have decided to delay shipping sensors until it is back a full production

The earthquake and temporary shortage of sensors had absolutely nothing to do with the delayed launch of the DL series. They introduced the cameras before testing had been completed. Then a serious flaw in their new processor was discovered. Months were spent on a firmware workaround. Eventually it was determined the processor had to be redesigned.

The 24-500 was position to "Outreach" the FZ1000 In a marketing battle of focal lengths. The entry of the RXIII made that marketing point irrelevant. The remaining marketing position is to be the low cost option - not a place Nikon really likes to play in.

If their margins are good, there's nothing wrong competing on price. The pricing of the FZ2500/2000 and RX10iii is pretty high. But, those wanting a 1 inch bridge type super zooms have probably already committed to the existing options.
