Re: See MPOs in full 4k 3D on Samsung TVs

UHD/4K 3D TVs are because of resolution and brightness the absolutely best method to view stereo photography in my opinion. For this reason I switched to landscape format 4K3D photography completely, crop images to 16:9 and use a dual DSLR.

mpo files from 3D cameras may sometimes cause trouble when read by 3D TV. I consider it rather a firmware problem at camera level than a TV problem. I solved this by openig mpo files in stereophotomaker and saved again as mpo. That way it is also possible to crop the picture to 16:9 format and bring it exactly to 3840x2160px size. My old fullHD-LG is very sensitive to pixel ratio, the Samsung JS UHD series not in this respect but also could not display mpo from panasonic 3D camera without editing in SPM software.

It's a fact that active 3D TVs vanish from market, and passive 3D systems reduce resolution to 3840x1080px per eye. A 4K 3D mpo image via USB on Samsung UHD TV (8Mpix/eye) is superb, but it is not twice the optical quality of 4K 3D via HDMI or 4K 3D streamed with YouTube-App where you can get 4 Mpx/eye when using side-by-side or top-bottom format.

Full 4K 3D seems to be a feature not many people are aware of and only few of them really use it. As long as there is no specification for full 4K 3D video it surely remains a feature for photographers.

Regards, R.K.
