Hi,

I have a budget problem.

I want to buy panasonic g7 and i don't know if i should buy the sigma 18-35 1.8 with the cheap rj focal reducer

or

buy metabones speedbooster and attached it to the sigma 18-50 2.8 who i already have.

This gear is mainly for making films.

I will appreciate your opinions. thanks!

I do not know anything about the 18-50 lens, but have experience with the 18-35 and speedbooster. I have the original (manual) Nikon mount speed booster and 18-35 - both purchased used in excellent condition. There are no complaints about detail color sharpness..but the lens is massive. On a G7 there will be no stabilization. The smooth manual aperture control (Nikon version) is really nice to have for video, but it is physically difficult to reach the control ring. One great thing I notice is the lens retains focus well when zooming.  The newer speedboosters are wider and have contacts for aperture and auto focus so it may be worth the extra investment for those features. That setup will produce 4K images comparable to super 35 sensor sized cameras costing thousands more.

I get more general use from my LUMIX 12-35mm f/2.8 with it's reduced size/weight, stabilizer, and auto focus. There is one particular gig I will always use the 18-35/speed booster for and that is theatrical wide angle locked down video. The 12-35 f/2.8 is not quite fast enough enough for dark scenes.
