Over the years I've toyed with the idea of shooting raw but have never actually done it. I've read countless articles on the subject so I thought today will be the day I try it out.

I shot a whole batch of photos (mostly of my son in the park on a cloudy day) in raw+jpg.

When I went through them I wanted to reduce the highlights on most of them. At first I did this with the raw file using Polarr. Out of interest I tried the same thing with the jpeg and found that I could achieve exactly the same result (to my untrained eye, and viewed on a 27" 4k screen). Admittedly the highlights weren't really that blown, but I was still surprised that there was so much I could do with the jpeg. An added benefit of the jpeg (for me) is that the image has already been sharpened and corrected so I preferred it to the raw file. I'm sure I could have got the raw file to my liking but I'm questioning whether I should carry on with raw at all. Am I missing something .......?

Yes, you are missing the main point of Photography which is Capturing The Moment.

Moments come and go and rarely repeat themselves.

When pressing the shutter it is always best to capture as many "dots" (data) of the Moment as possible.

I shoot Raw + Jpeg always.
