Glad to know it helps. Since you already know Sony controls, the A6300 will pose no problem in that regard.

Do you have some idea of the lenses you want? I find it easier to choose between systems when one has clear lens priorities.

Lens wise I was thinking of having at least the the 50mm 1.8 prime lens and kit lens to start. But Ideally I would like a zoom lens 18-105 lens f4 as I reside by the coast and would like to take advantage of being able to take photos of boats and nature nearby. If I went the Sony route. If the M5 could offer me something like this then that would also be great.

The Sony 50mm f/1.8 is an excellent value and hard to beat. The 18-105mm f/4G is also a very interesting proposition - just remember that, if you shoot raw, you will need to apply the lens' profile because of distortion (it's very intense at longer focal lengths).

Canon has recently launched the 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 STM for M mount. There aren't many reviews of it yet. I would personally go for an adapted Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 C in this case, as that is an excellent and well-proven lens that should pose no problem on the M5. It also goes wider and can handle some low light at the wide end.

So today I managed to have a play with the M5 in store. I must say its a lovely little camera and to be honest felt nicer to hold than the A6300. I had a play with the kit lens 15-45 and the elm 55-200 and I must say it won me over....Im now thinking that this will be the device I shall go for. The focusing was fast, touch screen very responsive and the build of the camera was nice and not too heavy too hold.

If you get a chance, try the m-22.  A nice little prime.  The new M macro is interesting & unusual as well.  It has a built in ring light.  I took the M- 3 to Europe this summer & I enjoyed using it.  My photos were good, but I am looking forward to the improved af in the M-5.  Bab
