Cloud Highlight Recovery - SD1 Merrill w/filter
2

Inspired by Dan's post showing some green in the clouds from a DP2 Merrill, I just had to test the SD1. My SD1 has the hot mirror removed and a Schott BG38 visible light filter on the lens - your unmodified SD1 could vary from these results which are presented just for interest.

It was a nice cloudy morning with the sun still at a fairly low angle. I took seven shoots and picked the "best" shot (according to the raw histogram), an underexposed shot, a bit blown (blue 1.6%) shot and a well-blown (blue 12%) shot.

(please ignore the incorrect EXIF pop-up, a FastStone Viewer problem).

First, the embedded JPEGs from the X3Fs:

It should be obvious which is which.

Then the raw histograms of a patch of sky:

The Y-axis is logarithmic and the scaling is in auto. Possibly of interest to some are the counts that suddenly appear at lower levels in the well-overexposed pane (bottom right).

And finally, the SPP conversions adjusted only with the EC slider to make the histograms look the same at their right-hand end:

Do note a complete lack of visible coloration in the 'recovered' shots (bottom two) - SPP 5.5.3 worked quite impressively, IMNSHO.
