Fuji as a dedicated wildlife/landscape system, snow.
Nov 28, 2016
Hello. I've been lurking these forums for quite a while now and I'm pretty sure I want to buy a fuji setup. There's actually several questions within this post, I hope that's ok.
Some information: I'm from the most northern part of Norway, shooting conditions are varied. The winter is long and it's often snowing and bad weather here.
I've been using a setup with a old Canon 7D, a 70-200 F4 (non is), tamron 17-50 (2.8, non is) and a sigma 10-20mm. I'm quite happy with the 7D besides the noise. I had the 100-400 mII for a while and really enjoyed the lens, but I personally felt that the camera held the lens back, + the combo was quite heavy together. Since that I've thought about changing systems, since I would most likely end up cashing out about the same if I were to buy another 100-400 II and a new camera.
This is where Fuji comes into the picture. I really like the look and style of the camera. I don't want to get a m43 since I want to do some landscape as well as general nature photography. And I don't really want to switch to nikon (even if the D500 +200-500 seems great).
There was recently black friday offers that had the lenses off 15% plus a double cashback on certain lenses. I used the oppertunity to order a Fujifilm x-t2, 10-24, 16-55 and 100-400. I'm pretty sure I will receive double cashback on all three lenses which will save me quite some money. I think both the 10-24 and the 16-55 will end up at about 700$ each. The camera and batterygrip 2220$ and with the rebate the 1500$, in total about 5320 $. That's without the extra batteries, memory cards etc.
What makes me uncertain is what is written about the 16-55 2.8 on different forums, that it's heavy, that it's not much better at f8-11 (the apperature I most likely would be using for landscapes). The reason I chose the 16-55 was because I was thinking WR would be smart to have because of weather conditions, but then again the 10-24 does not have WR, and my other earlier lenses are without WR and they're still fine. Which makes me wonder about instead getting the 18-55, but still the deal on the 16-55 seems good to me (700$ new).
Other than that I'm also a little worried about Fuji x-t2, the cold and battery life time.
Long story short, is it a good idea to buy a fuji system to use it like a wildlife/landscape setup for colder parts of the world? Is there anyone here with experience or someone that have some suggestions about changes that would be smart for this setup? In general im a bit worried since it's a lot of money for me to be spending on equipment!
Kind regards Andreas
