Hi Folks,

What a great forum! I can always count on you to come up with plenty of suggestions, reminders, and recommendations.

I had not considered the Sigma 50-500mm, but that seems to be an option that would work for me.

I've trimmed my sails a bit and realize that the weight etc of a long lens setup will cause it to be used sparingly. So, I want to keep the investment down and stick with Pentax for the camera.

There seem to be quite a few of the 50-500s available used. Will this lens work on a K50 or will I need to upgrade the camera?

Thanks again for all your help.

Jack

Dont forget also the DA* 60-250 f4, which is outstanding and can give excellent results with the 1.4x teleconverter: you then have a sharp 88-350 f 5.6 combo that can stand some cropping.

The 1.4x teleconverter can also work with the DA 55-300, making it a 77-420 f5.6-9 but I guess it will struggle to AF at f9 at the long end, and the native resolution at 300 is nothing stellar.

Thus I think the bigma could effectively be the answer.

I have used the 55-300 da hd wr with a kenko 1.4x tc and the IQ drops significantly in my experience so cropping gave me almost the same result and with faster af.

Then i went for the bigma, at f8-f9 it's quality is pretty nice, i also think is the way to go.

Some months later I got the 60-250 da* to have a "low ligth" WR option, for rainy days and the likes. Also I found that somehow the Pentax da* 60-250 produces more images that are more 3d like, at least to my eyes. Anyway both bigma and this one can happily live together.
