When I'm shooting renaissance faires, I often need to know what time it is, as I don't typically wear a wrist watch (*). If I'm carrying my Olympus camera in my hands, I will often check the time by doing Menu -> Up Arrow (to get to the utility menu) -> Right Arrow (to get to the time set menu) to see what the time is, and then press Menu twice to get back.

On the Panasonic, the time set menu is not in a convenient location. If you cycle through the live view displays with display, there is one screen that briefly shows the current time. However, since that screen is not the screen that shows the histogram and level settings, it isn't my normal screen and as I said, the time only shows up briefly, and then goes away.

Silly reply - what about a 'newfangled wrist sundial'?

Yeah, yeah. However, parts of the faires that I'm photographing have indoor venues where a sundial won't work. And some faires are prone to rain.  The director of the faires that I'm the photographer for has good luck in that it so far has not rained during the actual faire, but other faires that we go as paying patrons have been wet faires:

In the past thinkgeek.com used to sell this (they no longer do, but you can find it elsewhere): http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/eddd/

However, even if I could use it, that sharp spike is likely to injure me (or tear my costume, which might cause my wife who made the costume to injure me). Also, I've found in carrying various pocket watches, I don't like dials with roman numerals on them (I have to think to orient the watch).

Not silly reply - I too want to work out what the time is with no watch but my camera has no 'clock' per se. What I do then is quickly 'playback' and see what time I took the last image. it stays on screen then until I 1/2 press the shutter button. It also allows me to keep my eye to the viewfinder as well.

That works if you have shot recently. When I mostly need the time is when I'm coming off of eating or using the facilities, and its been some time since I took a picture.

It isn't a big deal, but it is something I've been doing. I think I started when either I left the watch at home, or it stopped working during the day.
