Olympus firmware upgrade and downgrade tool
Yep. I had forgotten about the site. Even though their update page didn't mention it, it does look like they have the latest and greatest firmware for the E-M5 mark I and E-M1 mark 1.
They are missing a few older cameras (E-PM1 for instance).
And I regard updating my Olies easier than my Pannies. You don't have to know if there's an upgrade, you just cponnect your camera and are informed if there are upgrades for camera or lens.
For me that is not easier because I normally don't use the Windows computer that I do the firmware upgrades on. But since firmware updates don't happen all that often it isn't that much of a hassle.
Fortunately in the recent cameras, Olympus has a menu item that tells you the current firmware of camera and lens.
I saw there was a new version of the software at 43rumors.com, and downloaded the software from their link. However, since 43rumors.com is based in Europe, they linked to the European panasonic facility, which had the G80 firmware. The US G85 will not install the G80 firmware. You have to go to the US Panasonic site for the firmware.
In going to the Panasonic site, I couldn't initially find the support tab in the G85 page, and a chat window popped up. I got a particularly clueless person that did not seem to understand what firmware was.
Yeah, that sounds simple indeed. Thank you very much.
I forgot to mention, Panasonic could be a bit friendlier, in that if they find the wrong bin file (such as my g80 vs. g85 goof) or the camera/lens is already at the current firmware level, they could say wrong camera or you are at the current level, but they just go to the normal play mode.
