Re: Encountering the Superstitions (X-Pro2 and 16-55)

I do not believe I possess the necessary expertise to comment on whether or not OIS significantly impacts IQ so I won't go there. I'm just a little agnostic on OIS in this FL. From about 16mm - 30mm I couldn't really care less. From 35mm - 55mm it would probably be nice in some circumstances.

I tend to like to shoot at 1/125s or above and would probably normally use some fill flash if I have to shoot much below that. So at that shutter speed OIS is not necessary even at 55mm. If it were there I would use it, but the fact that it's not isn't a deal breaker for me either.

I'm neither defending nor critiquing Fuji on their choice; it's just not that big a deal to me either way at that FL. Now, if they left OIS off the 50-140mm, that would be a completely different story. While we didn't have such a thing for our 70-200mm lenses back in the day, I have come to expect it in modern telephoto zooms and it makes a big difference.

[Doh! Which just reminded me....I went out and shot the super moon last night on a tripod and forgot to turn OIS off! Cr@p! See, OIS is bad. ]

Chris, turning OIS off on a tripod is something I often forget to do, but I have heard (from Jerry or Salt Lake?) that turning off the OIS on the Fuji zooms is not really necessary.
