If you wanted to do a technical comparison, I'd go to Lenstip.com and look at their evaluations of the lenses in question. As far as utility, since you shoot at f/5.6 the 16-55 would do well because it's an f/2.8 that shoots well wide open......
Thanks for that Cliff - Exactly what I was looking for relative to optical performance. Strictly by the numbers, the 16-55 would seem to be in the same league as the primes and 50-140. The 18-55 definitely appears a notch down.
Of course, that's strictly by the numbers and not necessarily real world performance under varying conditions.
I think that most photographers that own a 16-55 understand that it a great lens for photography. Since mirrorless cameras are more subject to dust pollution, getting a lens that you don't have to change all of the time means less cleaning of the sensor. With the advent of the Eyelead SCK-1b Gel Stick, cleaning a sensor is not such a chore anymore. My 16-55 stays on my camera all of the time unless I'm in a dim lit museum when then I change the 56 f/1.2. When traveling in old Europe or exploring Hadrian's Turkey, I will use my 10-24. I agree with you that the 18-55 doesn't compare well with the 16-55 unless you bring price into the equation.
