LR gets very close when using LR Nikon camera specific profiles. I am not sure, but I believe that the processing assumptions, curves, other details, etec. may be actually done in a manner within the Nikon development software that cannot be exactly duplicated in LR because of how LR is setup. What I mean is if you look at the tools and the way NX-D processes NEF files there are many differences. However, as I mentioned LR gets very close so that most images are great. Some people create their own custom profiles in LR using the DNG editor which can be saved and applied to many photos. You might try this. Also, NX-D has gotten a lot better as long as you stay away from detail editing in specific images.

I find that Nikon NX-D works best from my trash can next to my desk. That's where it ends up 5 minutes after I open the new camera box. Terrible software, in my opinion. I use ACR and PS CC.
