This is a photography forum so you are going to completely get the wrong advice.

A total solar eclipse is one of the most amazing things you will see in your life. I've seen people spending the limited time messing with cameras, getting stressed and missing shots etc. The best way to ruin your once in a lifetime moment. There will be plenty of shots on the web afterwards that you can down load. Just enjoy the moment.

if you are compelled to photo it then perhaps leave the camera on a stand in movie or timeslapse mode.  Still i think your mind will keep heading back to the camera and off the eclipse and the moment.

Boring stuff I know.
