Upgrade pocket camera from G16 to G9X?
Upgrade pocket camera from G16 to G9X?
Oct 28, 2016
I'm thinking of replacing my G16 with a G9X as my new pocket camera. My goal is to have better image quality in a smaller package with minimal out of pocket costs (I'll spend ~$50 for this upgrade). I have an 80D but sometimes there's places I'd rather not take an expensive camera/lens. I'd rather use something I can conceal and take out when needed; this role is currently played by my G16 which is uncomfortably bulky for in my pocket; I'd rather something more compact. I'm mostly being swayed by the G9x's much larger sensor for better low ISO performance combined with its miniscule size and low price tag. I'm not overly worried about having physical manual controls; I rarely use anything beyond exposure compensation on my G16. This camera is mostly for snapshots, anything else and I use my 80D. So my question to you folks is: is the image quality enough of an improvement to justify an upgrade? Is there any performance issues with a G9x vs G16 that might give me pause?
