X30 Question

X30 set for Aperture priority at ISO 100. Don't remember seeing this in the past...Today I shot several images of a friends pond. The sun light was coming from my left at about 90 degrees. When I changed the zoom, the only thing that changed was the shutter speed which is as it should behave. Why does the brightness get brighter as I zoom into the sene. Seems that the brightness would remain the same, but it increases significantly as the zoom moves in closer to the subject and diminishes as the zoom moves toward wide angle. Is this normal. Seems at least backwards. I controled the brightness with exposure compensation. Thanks for considering this.....Dan
