For architectural, you really need an Ultra-Wide lens to capture it all. But UWA lens tend to be expensive. Here in the USA:

  • $279 Canon 10-18mm STM
  • $699 Olympus 9-18mm
  • $848 Sony 10-18mm
  • $898 Panasonic 7-14mm

As you can see, canon 10-18mm STM is a screaming bargain. I would build my system around this lens if I were you.

By the way, the newest Google Pixel phone have incredible dynamic range. Google does this by taking real-time photo-stacking to increase the dynamic range. Check out this iphone7 vs Google Pixel comparison video:

It seems the consensus here is to build a system around a canon slr with the kit lens and the 10-18mm STM. Maybe I'll do just that. The hassle of changing lens is probably of no consequence when shooting professionally in architecture.
