Canon EOS M3: problem with bouncing built-in flash

Recently I have upgraded from M10 to M3.

With my M10 I could bend the built-in flash all the way back, but not with the M3:

when I bend the flash halfway or so, it works OK, but when I bend it all the way back, at some point the flash icon changes from "Flash On" to "Flash Off" and the the flash would not fire in this position, no matter what (current mode, settings, etc./ see pictures below).

After a very extended search I have found only one or two (rather confidential) reviews mentioning this issue.

All the others reviewers "can" bounce the built-in flash without any problem... Or do they only pretend to?

So here is my question please: is it one of the numerous quirks of the M3 or is it only my particular camera?

Thank you in advance for your help.
