Faulty 600D

Hi

I have a 600D with a major problem. When I release the shutter, the camera freezes. The red light that indicates it is writing to the card stays on and never goes out. Even if left for 10 mintues it stays on until I remove and replace the battery. I have tried different lenses and different cards (always formatted in camera), and even no card. It's always the same. At first I was getting a sort of image (when I have a card in) but now if anything (rarely) is actually written to the card it's just streaks. Usually there is nothing at all. Is this likley to be a faulty motherboard or something else? I ahve no idea if anything has happened to the camera but the problems has got worse over time until now it is unusable. I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks very much.
