Thoughts on the XT-10 (vs XT-1 & 23mm/35mm) in Swedish / European Winter (-28C)?
Oct 12, 2016
Hey everyone!
So i've been set on buying the Fujifilm XT-10 because it fits right in my budget at just AU$698 for the graphite body. And judging by sample pics i've seen, it still takes great shots.
But I am hoping to use it when I move to Sweden for 6 months in January 2017 and as you might know, Sweden can be quite cold in this winter period reaching as low as -28°C. I don't know if I will experience this extremely cold weather myself at -28°C, but i'm sure I definitely will experience at least -10°C. So the problem is that the XT-10 isn't Weather Resistant and might break when I take it out in the cold when i'm in Sweden or other Scandinavian countries during the winter.
So now i'm looking at the XT-1 as it is Weather Resistant but it is about $400 more (black body) than the XT-10. Does having WR make a big difference? But even on Fuji's website, the XT-1 is only 'Weather Resistant - dust-resistant, water-resistant and -10°C low-temperature operation', so what will happen if i'm out in -28°C?
Anyone who has had experience with their Fujifilm XT-10 or XT-1 below -1°C weather to -28°C weather, please let me know your thoughts!
I am not a pro photographer and am just hoping to take day to day travel shots. I am willing to leave the camera at home for excursions (for example to the Northern Lights) where it might be extremely cold and might break the camera and use my iPhone instead (if I can even get a shot on my iPhone).
I am also wondering if this applies to the lens? I wanted the 35mm f/1.4 but it's not WR. I am drawn to the 35mm f/1.4 because of it's low f-stop for great bokeh. I've heard people say there's not much difference between the f/2 and f/1.4 but i've also heard that there is, and it seems like people tend to go with the f/1.4 even with the introduction of f/2. Which one is better? But that said, i'm also considering buying the new 23mm f/2 which will address my WR needs. Would having the 23mm f/2 and 35mm f/1.4 be okay?
