Re: Anybody using MFT bodies for astrophotography?
I will try to explain my stacking reasoning the best i can. Lets say i get a scope, maybe 70/700 F10. So on my MFT it's a 1400mm FOV but if i understand correctly, that's still not enough to get a full framing of the moon, it may be 1/4 or something of my frame (correct me if im wrong on the numbers).
So i could use the video mode which i believe crops in a bit normally, or i could go further if needed and use the ETC video mode which uses the center 2mp of the sensor for 1080p video for an extra 2.6x crop. The problem is with the biggest crop during ETC video, i will indeed need a tracking system bc there isn't enough periphery for the moon to travel at all, the FOV is too tight.
On the other hand with full 16mp frames shot in burst, i still get no vibrations but i get more clearance around the outside of the moon. As it travels across the framing, for maybe half a minute or so, im still getting the same number of pixels on it yet i don't need any tracking device. In that time i could get hundreds of full 16mp frames without any tracking device.
In post the extra peripheral space is cut away after alignment and im left with at least as much as i would have captured in ETC video mode, and i can always crop in the stills result to 2mp if i wanted to. The main advantage in video frames is it will capture them at higher rates like 30 or 60 fps, but the 10fps full size photos also have advantages bc they are shot in 12 bit raw.
It just seemed like a good idea that if my scope wasn't long enough to get a full size view of the moon, no need to crop out the outer pixels before hand since they could be used as a movement buffer so to speak. The most likely buy at this point is something like a 90/900 F10, Meade sells one with an EQ mount for about $200 new, i will look for one used.

I read the words
'You form a line to formalize the former lies.'
And I finally saw the truth
Something so profound and now it's sitting there
Surrounded by the garbage and the stains
Another victim of the refuse
Now I've been saying this for years
But you don't comprehend it
I fight hell and I fight fear
Because I understand it
Androgyny and insults
You try so hard to be difficult
You want to win the war?
Know what you're fighting for"
