I took this combo to the dog park today. I am very impressed with the AF and especially the resolution. Getting fur to look like fur and not a mat on moving subjects is tough. I am very pleased with the result. My 5D III cannot match this. Note: The dog park puts some blue biocide in the water. The color is spot on. I am including cropped and uncropped versions.

Great shot.

I am still on the fence about 1DxMk2 vs 5DMk4 and its keeping me up at night, literally!

Having owned all the 5 series camera's over the last ten years, the one thing that's made me grumpy is the AF speed.

I now have the funds to get either one but if I get the 5D it means I have about 2k left over for extra glass.

Its been talked about a lot but has anyone actually done an AF comparison yet on the AF performance between these two?

Some CC if your open for it....

I think I would have stopped just a bit to achieve a 1-2 foot DOF, so the full head (nose to ear tips) was sharp on the dog facing the camera. If a sharply defined glistening water surface becomes a distraction or doesn't supply the background separation you desired the water can be easily soften in post.

I went to a 'meet the 5D4' session with one of the Canon Pros just after it was released and, while he was enthused about the camera he was just as, or even more, enthused about the new 24-105 MkII and some of the photos he exhibited taken with this combo were mighty impressive. I plan to buy the 5D Mk IV and 24-105 MkII as a kit when the new glass becomes available. At the moment it doesn't look as though there'll be a discount for buying them as a kit but at least it allows me time to see there are no hidden problems with the 5D IV. Shouldn't be long now.

Cool dogs. Nice shot. But I'd be afraid that water would turn my dog blue ! No ?

And what about it bothering there eyes... or if they drink it ?

I'm sure they have considered this stuff but... Hmmm.

I received a response from the Parks Department. The blue color is from an algae control dye called AquaShade. It is registered with the EPA and is supposedly safe. http://aquashadedye.com/ . So I guess it is OK for the doggos.
