Have you heard of an Apple product called a Mac?
Yes, that's right, Laurence. Macs are perfect in every possible way! They are unfaultable! Nothing could ever go wrong with a Mac! That would be un-possible!
I understand that I know nothing about computers - Macs or PC Windows, Linux or whatever. However, a major issue with SPP is having as many cores as possible. Next on the list is ram. And then there is maintenance.
When I knew that the SD1 was going to arrive back in the good ole days, I contacted the best PC builder I could find who is in Rochester, New York, to get a multicore machine made. The price was far greater than a Mac Pro, and repairs and maintenance would be still as difficult as ever. So I bit the bullet and got a Mac Pro, which meant that I had to change a lot of software and say ciao to Corel.
Was you r Mac speced out pretty much the same as the PC you were going to have built? I have no doubt as to what you are saying, but if the two systems were similar in specs, I'm surprised the Windows system was far greater in price.
Since then, I have increased storage with SDD drives, increased ram easily, and now I am considering changing the processor side to 12 cores. All of this is exceptionally easy with plug in parts.
And my nearly seven-year old machine is still running 24-hours a day.
Macs are not perfect. I know that because I repair many of them in my little part of the world. But they are much easier to repair than any PC sent my way. And there is a benefit to having a closed system.
The only time I've ever used a Mac is when I bought my son a MacBook Pro years ago. The extent of my use was to turn it on and connect it to the home wifi. As for ease of repair, I wouldn't know that either from first-hand knowledge but I suspect that these Macs have a very good design any layout to the hardware that help make them easy to repair.
