Samples: X-T2, Capture One 9.3, and Scottie Wang's Velvia color profile
2

I spent some time in San Francisco last week and was able to photograph a variety of subjects, mostly using the 10-24, 16-55, and 35/2.

On Saturday, tours of the old ships on Hyde Street Pier were free, so I took advantage and spent some time there. These ships are well maintained and wonderful to see with or without a camera - it's certainly worth the time if you are in the Fisherman's Warf area and are doing the tourist thing.

In any event, I shot raw, as I normally do, and spent some time in Capture One 9.3, seeing how the colors & details could be brought out. After some experimenting, I found the Velvia profile to really bring out the colors & textures on these old ships, really making them pop. Do note that I lifted shadows at least a little on almost all of these images - I do like more shadow detail than what the profile delivers by default, but it's a trivial adjustment when you are shooting raw.

As for sharpening, with the 10-24 (which was used exclusively for this series) I find myself able to get pretty aggressive with the amount, as long as the threshold, radius, and ISO are low. Below are linked to full-sized JPEGs so pixel-peepers can get their fill.

Anyway, I hope somebody finds these interesting. In general I think the results are outstanding, but YMMV, etc.

C&C always welcome.

George
