If you got eight years from your original Canon battery, you have done well indeed!

For a new battery, if you can order from Amazon, that's the place where I go. As others have said, I've had good results with Wasabi batteries (less than half the cost of a Canon battery) but original Canon batteries always do better for me and can talk to the Canon charger. The other batteries do not have Canon battery gauges built in so they can go from full to empty in the camera's display in a few minutes. My best results come from having a Canon battery in the camera at the beginning of the day and a Wasabi on hand as a backup.

That wasn't my experience with the inov8 battery for my 450d/XSi. I alternated that with the original Canon, wasn't particularly aware of which battery was in the camera and the charging and charge indication seemed fine. There may have been a difference but not one I noticed without taking test measurements etc.

I'd say similar for the Hahnel HL-E in my 700D - couldn't tell you without looking which is in the camera at the moment, that or the original.
