Hi Suoko.

I would suggest useing S mode (Shutter priority mode, this mode you control the shutter speed and the camera will change the aperture and iso)

Try keep  your shutter speed around 1/120 in lower light drop it down a bit say 1/90 but play with the speeds and see how low you can go before camera shake starts to blur photos fast moveing subject's like kids will require 1/120 and above. Also use spot focus.

Best solution is to take full control and use M mode (Manual mode) this way you have full control over shutter, aperture, iso and then you can choose where to compromise.
