SD1 Settings Question

Just bought what appears to be for all intents and purposes, an unused SD1 Merrill on eBay form a seller with 100% positive feedback. Just wondering if I'm missing something or it's defective. The camera doesn't retain previous settings after power up. At least in M or S modes, it defaults to 30" shutter speed every time. I did own one of these a few years ago and don't remember this being an issue...

Thanks in advance.

It should not do that. I presume you are storing it with a charged battery in it. if the battery is dead or not in the camera at all it might lose the settings if the internal capacitor is not retaining a charge. I have never experienced that with my SD1M.

I had an SD14 with that kind of fault, it was irritating but not fatal. However the fault was a precursor to other problems that made the camera unusable not long after. I suggest trying to get your money back.

Maybe user error? After adjusting the settings after engaging the FUNC button, settings are retaining. Duh? McFly? Bueller?

have the latest firmware in the camera?

should be 1.09

You might need to keep a fully charged battery in the camera for a few days or a week in order to adequately charge up the capacitor that keeps the settings.

I'm guessing the time also goes away along with the settings.

If Tom's suggestion of keeping the battery in for a week or so does not fix things, send it into Sigma for repair - it probably would not cost much.

Not sure about v1.09. Sigma Imaging UK has SD1 on v1.11 and the SD1M(errill) on v1.06. It is worth contacting the Sigma agent wherever you are to (a) ask about the fault, (b) check if it a known issue and then (c) get your money back or get a repair dependent on circumstance.

I always consult Sigma Japan website

the versions for sd1 and sd1m are different!!!

Thanks for all the replies. I does appear to be working correctly now. As for the battery, it appeared with three bars full, though I hadn't actually charged it myself out of the box-just put it in. I wasn't ready to charge it out of the box as the seller sent a kit with a foreign plug. So I needed to locate either an adapter or a standard US replacement cable (2-prong, figure 8 end) to plug into the charger (which I just did this AM). I am charging it now. I will report back...

As for the firmware, it is the correct version 1.09 for the SD1M, not the SD1.
