I appreciate the thoughtful and detailed response, I am awaiting a response from the seller of the 24mm pancake, and will purchase it if it is still available, regardless of my decision to upgrade or not.

I do feel at this point that the wisest upgrade, both in terms of features and budget, is the 70D. The 80D is improved, but not enough so to warrant spending $1200 vs $600 for used examples.

Going from my 350D to my 550D was a huge step forward. I'm hoping (if I decide to do so) going from the 55D to 70D is a noticeable step as well.

I personally went from a T2i (550D) to a 70D and was blown away. It was a huge step forward. Compared to the T2i, more FPS, two mode dials, var-angle LCD, touch-screen, DPAF, WiFi, Top LCD, Digic 5+, Max Shutter of 1/8000, 19 AF points,

All true but none really tgat useful when shooring landscapes well except for the Tilty touch screen.

The sensor and processor output is only a modest upgrade and actually behind entry level apsc mirrorless or entry level Nikon products.

Especially in regards to dynamic range and noise performance. 2 important values when shooting landscapes.

The 80d made a rather substantial leap forward in regards to dynamic range.

For me, The 80D felt like a minor upgrade.

The only negative thing I will say is that you may lose some portability with the bigger size. A T5i or T6i can be a tempting alternative.

T5i has the same sensor as what he currently has. The T6i is priced to closely to the 70d according to most Canon shooters.

Note, you'll need A T4i or newer XXXD camera body to take full use of STM.

Stm is useless when shooting landscapes. Heck autofocus isn't even required nor ideal either.

Punch in with live view for critical focus and focus stacking are the way.

All on a tripod with filters for certain effects.

Beyond that the on sensor phase detect of the T4i and T5i do jackshit anyway.

The original Eos M failed for a reason. And tgat reason is being stuck in live view with an on sensor system that doesn't work.

Unlike the dual pixel system of the 70d.
