Re: EF lenses and the Mirrorless future

Canon has a history of putting it's latest and greatest technology out first in amateur advanced level equipment before moving that technology into its professional line of equipment.   Latest examples of this being dual pixel sensor technology 70D and 80D and the on sensor analog to digital conversion 80D.    Which were followed by 1DX MkII and the 5D MkIV.

The question that is begged by the just released M5 with its APS-C sensor is "Can a full frame sensor mirrorless body with EF mount be far behind?"  Imagine a 5D MkIV like mirrorless camera in the coming year with a fully articulated touchscreen that's weatherproof, another 6-8 ounces lighter, with a quad HD viewfinder that refreshes at 60Hz or better.  Of course it will take EF lenses and yes it will include IBIS that works with existing lenses both OS and non OS (just like the M5).  This would be a great way for Canon to enter the pro mirrorless camera business.  Overall, it should be cheaper to make the electronics than the precision mechanical parts of the SLR.

I'm  only guessing but I bet a lot of pros would buy in to that at $3-3.5K.  If the M5 can do what it's doing for APS-C why can't we expect a mirrorless fullframe that does the same but also does 4K video like the current pro SLRs that Canon produces?

Next year should be very interesting for all of us.

All the best,

Bob
