G80 photos and specs

The G80 is getting little attention in another thread, perhaps due to its title ("press release"), so thought I'd try a thread dedicated just to it. I believe the G80 may turn out to be the headline mFT story at Photokina given that the GH5 and E-M1 II will only be "pre-announced" and likely unavailable for reviewers to handle.

G80 specs (from 43rumors leak):

  • 16.0MP 4/3 type Live MOS sensor with no low-pass filter
  • on sensor 5-axis camera shake correction
  • New gyro-sensor technology “Dual IS MK II”
  • shake-free shutter from the GX80
  • DFD technology
  • Dust and water proof, magnesium body
  • Video: 4K30p, FullHD60p
  • ISO Sensitivity: 200-25600
  • Continuous shooting: up to 9 frames / sec. (up from 8 fps)
  • EVF: 236 Man 1.48 times dot OLED (formerly 1.4x) 35mm equivalent 0.74 times (formerly .70x)
  • The rear monitor: 3-inch 1.04 million dot, Free Angle (does this include tilt?)
  • Media: SD / SDHC / SDXC card

Compared to the G7: no low-pass filter (10% improved resolution), 5-axis IBIS + Dual IS MK II, DFD auto-focus for tracking action (likely improved), shake free shutter, 8K stills at 30 fps, 9 fps mech shutter, larger EVF, dust/water proof magnesium body and assumedly the mic port from the G7 (major shortfall of the GX80/85).

I'm also curious whether "Free Angle (a new term from Panasonic) means the screen can be both fully articulated while also being capable of a simple tilt as well.

Size appears slightly larger than the G7 (roughly 1/8" wider, 1/16" taller) and with mildly more smoothed out angles. I find it a handsome camera:

Given 5-axis IBIS and dust/water proof magnesium body, I'm expecting a noticeable price bump from the G7, perhaps $1,000, similar to its likely competitors, the a6300 and E-M5 II. Come to think of it, that would make for an interesting comparison review .
