Canon will release a full frame mirrorless with a short flange distance and a simple extension tube to allow EF lenses to be used to their full potential.

A new line of EF lenses will be released to take advantage of the short flange distance.

But is "short flange distance" enough of an "advantage" to make it profitable to redesign the entire range of EF lenses--particularly the L lenses?

What we seen with other makers is that more often they're not creating new formulations, just adding built-in extension tubes to the lens bodies.  Thus, the camera/lens is only more compact when used with the relatively small number of lenses designed specifically for them.

I think it's more likely Canon will find something else to do with the extra space and keep the camera bodies at DSLR size, minus the flapping mirror and optical viewfinder.
