Will Canon offer an EF to Mirrorless adapter to help us through the transition period ?

Hello? Anyone home?

You pick out one sentence from my post and give a strange response

And your point is ?

His point is that EF-EFM adapter exists since the beginning of the EOS M line.

Is the EOS M the successor to Full Frame DSLR, no its not which means that neither you nor he actually read my post very carefully. My post is about a time in the future when Canon introduces the new FF and APS-C mirrorless range as successors to the current DSLRs. At the moment EOS M is a sideline product. The present adapter is a means by which Canon can entice existing DSLR and EF lens owners to buy an EOS M.

Imagine if you will a mirrorless successor to the IDX, and then think about if/ how EF lenses might fit into that scenario. Expecting the flagship range of Canon cameras to have a mirror flapping up and down while other makers have silent 50 fps global shutter FF systems is 'head in the sand'

Peter

The shutters will never go that fast.Apertures are mechanical too.

50fps photography is called 'video'. Canon (and others) already do it, albeit at lower resolutions. The limiting factor is processing and storage write speeds.

The day Canon rolls out an FF mirrorless, they will also announce an EF lens adapter for it.

Looking at the EF-M mount, the ring looks large enough to accommodate an FF sensor.

EF and EF-S mounts have same mount ring size, and EF-S mount accepts EF lenses but not vice-versa. Presently offered adapter is EF-M/EF-S.

Based on all of the above, I think that:

If introduced, FF mirrorless will have a new mount, let's call it EF-F. It will have same ring size as EF-M, but will not be able to accept EF-M lenses. However, any new EF-F lenses will fit the EF-M mount.

A new EF-F/EF adapter will be introduced. It will only accept EF lenses, but will work with both EF-F and EF-M bodies. Essentially, EF-F and EF-M will have the same 'relationship' as EF and EF-S have on DSLRs.

Why do you expect Canon to do FF Mirrorless with an EF adapter ?

If EF is their mainstream format why not put an EF mount on the FF Mirrorless?
