Is this the only forum on DPReview for photo editing?

I meant no disrespect to you with my remarks. It is just that this battle has been fought so many times in the past to the detriment of those of us who consider ourselves retouchers. Guess you would have had to of been there to understand. The original Retouching .forum was the most vibrant, active and energetic forum at the time. Over the years, changing the name resulted in retouching being grouped with software and hardware discussions to the point that retouching has become almost nonexistant. Sadly these changes resulted also in the loss of many vey highly valued members.

So, this is a very sore subject with me and I guess I come on too strongly every time changing the name of the forum pops up.

Sorry if I offended you personally, as that was most assuredly not my intent.

Kudos to SamB for trying to revitalize the original intent of this forum.

No offence taken, I assure you!

This has been brought up before as already stated. I don't think this forum should be renamed, just be involved with what its title suggests - Retouching (and I come here to learn about that and see some amazing examples.

But, I do think there should be a Post-Processing forum dedicated to the myriad of post process software and plug-ins that exist and their use and techniques, which is different from Retouching.

It would just help members both post and comment to the more specific issues of general post-processing.

The issue of forum name aside, I'm genuinely interested to understand how you differentiate between post-processing and retouching in this context (honest question, not trolling!)

In my personal interpretation, post-processing refers to manipulating a RAW file (using various types of software, depending on preference and end goal) to create a finished photograph. I'm guessing your definition is more nuanced?

Please! Let us not go down the renaming route again. This has been beaten to death over the years. Just my opinion, of course.

Yes, I still have the scars for suggesting a change when I first started looking here ( to be honest, I thought some of the comments were quite needlessly offensive)

Is there some inclusive report on this trouble it's details and resolution on the board here? Seems like this was a remarkable event with substantial ramifications so I would like to read the entire history somewhere if possible.

No not really - it was not a particular event. There were flame wars and all kinds of stuff going on though. I take long periods away from DPR, but was very glad to see at least some of the talent remains here, sharing and helping.

Hope you actually don't (want to see our dirty laundry that is from that period). Like folk have said, it got ugly. In fact, that period was so much fun, they created off topic forum here for folk to vent. Go there to get a flavor of how ugly it can get (do so daily; participate way too often, though. lol). :)
